Hard to believe, but this adorable little pup was surrendered by his owner along with another larger catahoula. The owner claimed he was the larger dogs puppy, but after further examination the vet determined she had never had a litter. The mystery of his origin may never be solved. After a brief stint in the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter, the newly named Scooter and his "mom" Kali, were taken in by the Catahoula Rescue.
After lots of searching and research, Coobah's soon to be owner contacted the Catahoula Rescue to meet Kali. The couple already had a rambunctious kitten and had no interest in also getting a puppy. But alas, when Ashley arrived at the Petsmart parking lot to meet the dog, she was already adopted. Scooter, however, WAS available. The rescue lady then said "You can have a trial run and bring him to your home for 7 days. If it doesn't work out you can give him back." She got him and explained to her husband who was still in bed after working until 6am. He looked at her and said "You just adopted our dog without me."
Coobah's first move (of many) was not very far. Just from the Marigny to the French Quarter. It did come with some perks. He was FINALLY allowed to go inside the bar where his dad worked since they now lived above it. AND Coobah had a balconey over looking the very busy Decatur street. He watched parades and peed on the downstairs neighbors! He has very fond memories of the French Quarter apartment.
This move was a BIG one! Coobah's mom was going to school in Vancouver Canada! Coobah's brother flew out there with his mom, while he and his dad and uncle packed up a truck and drove! It was a crazy long time to spend in the car, especially considering he often gets carsick, but they made it with only one minor drive off the road. Luckily his new place in Canada also had a balconey and he was reunited after 6 long weeks away form his mom.
After mom finished (and won) school, the family debated where to go next. Coobah and his folks decided to regroup, after a long and expensive year, in Chicago. Coobah had been before and really loves his uncle so being close to him was the goal. In fact, they got super close and ended up living across the street! AND after about a year, Coobah's uncle Joe adopted Madi! Now not only does Coobah have his family and uncle around all the time, he also has a cousin and playmate! Not to mention his mom's new obsession with camping means fun in the water and woods!
